Learn the basics of making simple earrings in this one-off, hands-on introductory class, thanks to the Creative Communities Scheme!

All you need to bring along is yourself and some happy vibes.

In a small group, we’ll look at the tools, what they’re for, and what you call the materials we’ll be using, so you can get more later on.

We’ll get into simple techniques that can get you started on your journey to create jewellery to your personal style needs.

Available for all participants will be

• Tools (to keep, if you pay full price)
• 6 x charms to pick from the magical charm stash (to keep)
• 6-18 beads (to keep)
• 6-18 spacer beads (to keep)
• 6 stainless-steel, hypoallergenic hooks (to keep)
• Eye pins
• Lights snacks and drinks

When?

Wednesday, April 8, 5.45pm setup, punctual 6pm start.

Where?

Gribblehirst Community Hub, 5 Cabbage Tree Swamp Drive, Sandringham, Auckland – plenty of parking for cars and bikes available, close to public transport.

• We can’t guarantee that charms will create pairs of earrings.
• All ages welcome, if accompanied by a guardian.
• Bonus Bits & Make It Bling offers only work with any main booking (waged/unwaged) and follow the time-bound refund rules below.

• The Hub is accessible, but please get in touch so we can arrange it for you to go smoothly.
• You are welcome to bring your own choice of beads and charms to work with, for example, to upcycle that broken necklace or finally use the polymer clay charms you made ages ago.
• Without a Community Services Card and ID of the same name presented on the night, the unwaged tickets won’t be refunded – in that case you get to keep all tools. Only valid CSCs will be accepted, not gold cards.
• All bookings can be cancelled and refunded on request until April 2, 6pm by emailing silke@pocomoto.co.nz– no explanation required.
• From April 2, 6pm – April 6, 11.59pm we’ll refund 50% on cancellations. Please email silke@pocomoto.co.nz.
• After April 6 we can’t refund standard tickets/orders – but you can still pick up all materials and tools in Eden Terrace another time, if you like. Get in touch!
• BYO, but no intoxification, please.

To make this more inclusive, as a Community Service Card holder, you can attend this class for free, and your bond will be refunded after the class if you can present your CSC (not gold card!) and return all tools used on the night.

About Silke

A few years ago I had a bike accident that wreaked all sorts of havoc, including breaking my right hand in weird spots. Physio recommended doing exercises like picking up and holding tiny things, so I started making earrings, which turned out to be utterly addictive as a hobby, and subsequently, I created thousands and thousands of earrings. It’s like knitting, very calming. My favourite earrings are made with resin charms I create myself, and sometimes I paint unusual things like toys brightly to hopefully bring extra joy to someone’s style. I think you could make earrings out of anything and everything, and I am keen to explore that.

I hope this class can be a relaxed way of trying something new for everyone, something you can run with and keep extending your knowledge to find your own way of doing it.
